Referee Clinics This Week!
Posted on May 24th, 2008 1 commentIn an effort to better prepare ourselves for the upcoming season (first pitch is 8 days away!) and to improve the refereeing experience for all those who give their time, the league will be holding three hour-long referee clinics this week. We’d like to encourage all of you that have refereed in the past and plan to help out this year to attend one of the following clinics:Sunday, May 25th, 5pm, EdgewoodMonday, May 26th, 6 pm, South ParkThursday, May 29th, 6 pm, South ParkThese casual clinics will review some of the basics and some of the finer points of refereeing a kickball game. Because captains and assistant captains have the privilege of discussing calls, they are strongly encouraged to attend. They should also encourage 2-3 other team members to show up as well. Perhaps we can come up with some sort of prize for the team that sends the most representatives? Please come out, learn something, have some fun. Captains Meetings: Fri, May 23
Posted on May 13th, 2008 2 commentsThe KVKL will hold its annual pre-seaon captains meeting on Friday evening, May 23rd. The meeting will be held in the same location as last year, the meeting room on the main floor of the Lawrence Public Library. A new wrinkle this year will be that captains of teams new to the league will meet first, at 6:30, then returning captains will meet at 7pm. This is being done to address the differentsneeds, questions, and concerns of the two different groups.
It is mandatory that a representative of each team (captain or co-captain) attend one of this meeting. Please contact me a kawvalleykickball@gmail.com if it will not be possible to attend. Topics discussed at these meetings will include a welcome back, any new policies, the weekly kickball routine (equip, etc.), the new pre-season ref clinic, and–for returning captains–a review of the league rules. With this in mind, a copy of last year’s rules is available on the site for review.

The equipment freighter has docked……

The new balls have arrived. We have two colors, Orange and Yellow. KVKL is selling them 1 for $10.00, 2 for $15.00, or 3 for $20.00. This ball seems to carry a bit more than the one we used last year (it has been windy….). Please call/text 785.766.9779or e-mail gradually@hotmail.com to get yours for the coming season. We also have a few of last years’ model at Love Garden for $5.00 each. They are a touch thinner than the new version (as far as I can tell). We appreciate everyone (but ONE team) paying on time. If you would like a receipt for your league doantion, it will be tax-deductible for 2008. Kudos to you all! Deron
