All-Star Weekend!

The game of the week this sunday will feature some of the best teams in the league–actually, it will feature all of teams.  Each team will provide one guy and one girl to play in arguably one of the most-talented kickball games in the nation (no pressure).  The game will start at 9pm, so come out and support your teammates and your conference–make sure to check the standings page so that you’ll know which conference to cheer for.

A note going into this weekend.  Seemingly every week I have been approached by players complaining about the quality of refereeing in their games.  While complaining seems to have become a league tradition, I’d really like to see us turn a corner regarding our attitudes and approach to refereeing.  Everyone needs to realize that refereeing is a two-sided issue: first, teams need to provide the best refs they can and these refs need to take the job seriously; second, players need to remember that those refereeing their games are doing them a favor and should be treated with respect and appreciation.  Keeping this in mind, if a situation arises where a captain feels it appropriate to DISCUSS (not argue) a call and/or rule with a ref this discussion should be held calmly and respectfully at a close distance so that raising one’s voice is not necessary.  Its no surprise that some refs are unwilling to listen to captains’ disputes considering the way they are treated by that team’s players.  Improving this part of the game is going to take a commitment from everyone in the league.  Keeping this in mind, let’s go out and have a fun weekend!

Advertising/KJHK

Businesses, organizations, websites, or whatever/whoever can now procure advertising on the KVKL wesbite for $100.00.  Your money buys a banner that will last a kickball year.  We are already in the fourth week of the season, so a banner purchased now would be viewable until the end of December.  If you want to advertise yet do not want to pay the hundie, then a trade of sorts would be considered (for example, you or your organization can provide a valuable commodity for the year-end party).  No reasonable offer will be refused.  Any questions?  Please contact Josh josh@huntindustries.com or Deron gradually@hotmail.com.  

Also, KJHK (90.7 F.M.) has kindly dedicated an hour to us for KVKL talk on Friday, July 11th from 8 to 9 p.m.  The DJ of Sunglasses After Dark threw himself upon the mighty sword of radio land bureaucracy and sacrificed an hour of his show.  What a guy!  It’s possible that we will be able to take phone calls.  Tell all your friends and tune in while we chat kickball!  Cheers!     

Scores and Standings Update: June 23

ATTN!!! South Park Games MOVED AGAIN!!!

After scoping out Hillcrest field it is in no shape for kickball (6-10in tall grass), so those games scheduled for South Park this weekend will be played at Woody Field, 201 Maine St.  To get there, find Maine St. and head north toward the hospital.  The field is just north of LMH.  Sorry for the inconvenience, have fun pioneers!

Because the playing field at south park will be occupied by a huge-ass tent this weekend, all games scheduled there will be played at Hillcrest Elementary (look for the orange flags), located on the ten hundred block of Hilltop Drive.  Spread the word!!!

Scores and Standings Update: June 16

The site has been updated with Scores and Standings through June 16th.

WEEK 3 is ON.

Rains swept through our fair city earlier today, but the fields held up and the sun is doing all it can to dry them up. While some outfields are a little soggy, we are a “go” for kickball this week. We are not out of the woods, however. Another band of storms could arrive later this evening; so start those games on time, hustle on and off the field, and get in as much ball-kicking as you can. Inclement weather policy reminders will be on all clipboards.

Also, if you have any equipment from last week please bring it by the equipment shed (behind 946 Pennsylvania) as soon as possible. If no one is there yet, toss it in the back of the orange pick-up.
