32 seems like the most symmetrically even. but, if hobbs had 3 games, plus 2 games on 6 other fields, would be 15 games (30 teams). i agree with g-off that it might be nice to have a perfectly symmetrical tournament. but, having been in the situation, it's kinda cool for the lower seeded bye teams of years past (5,6,7,8...) to have something to shoot for as the reg-season winds down (can be good or bad). i think 30 teams would only leave 2 byes (14 first-round games producing 14 teams + 2 bye teams= 16 games second round). those 2 teams don't need a bye.
i like the evolution of the league as it has over the last few seasons. obviously we are pretty close to maximum density with teams and current venues. if we can get 8 fields every week to play on, we can have 32 teams. 34 with 3 games/week at hobb's (4 teams play 2 win and in games in tourney).
ive heard that the field situation is among the most critical problems facing the league as it stands now. at this point the less fields to maintain the better/cheaper for the league? so, what fields are the most serviceable? ive really learned to enjoy playing on the ball-fields (though my feet would tell you differently), but they are fairly expensive to rent. i love the ambiance of places like south park and the water tower. edgewood was an energetic hub of activity when host to 4 games/day, (stronger kicking has shrunken it down a bit). but, it seems we are possibly wearing out our welcome at the city parks/schools. are the free grass-fields becoming endangered? if so, are we willing to rent the ball-parks at an added cost to teams? can there be 8 fields to play on every week? /end ramble
