Hello KVKL Community,
We hope you all had a relaxing holiday and were able to find time to do something for yourselves and/or your loved ones over this holiday break from KVKL. The board just wanted to reach out with a few clarifying statements regarding the Red Legs and No Autographs match-up from June 28th.
First off, we are clarifying some language within rule C.8.a:
8. Each team shall name a captain and assistant captain, who are responsible for turning in a lineup to the head referee each game.
a. Captains and assistant captains (2 total) are the only players on a team that may discuss calls with referees during the course of a game.
We are adding in language under section “8.a” that reads: “ A player that is not officially a captain or co-captain per league registration, may only be designated as a captain in the event of a registered captain(s) absence.” We are hoping this will help shore up any confusion for refs when discussing calls with captains. Any other rule changes regarding lineups/eligibility we will be discussing in the offseason to help with clarifying any future confusion.
Secondly, while we understand that complex situations and calls may arise during games, we strongly encourage players/refs to keep games moving as quickly as possible, and try to avoid any prolonged debates or conversations. We do not want to discourage players from finding board members when a situation demands it, however we do have our own duties as players/captains as well as board members, so being routinely pulled from these situations can disrupt some operations within our own teams. We just ask that you all try to be mindful, not fearful that you can’t/shouldn’t find us.
Also, we would like everyone (including the KVKL board) to take some time before we play next week to stop and reflect. While KVKL is not a place where all are expected to be the best of friends, it is a place where all of us from every background imaginable bond over a kid’s game that we all love for the sake of charity. So, the reflection ask is not are you being a good teammate/spectator/ref/captain/etc., but what can you do to be a better one each week going forward. We are not demanding perfection because that would be unrealistic, just that we all strive to be better for each other and our charities.
Finally, some unrelated matters we talked about the ever approaching heat. We will be following Lawrence Parks and Recreation Guidelines regarding the heat index. Which goes as follows:
105 degrees and below: Games continue as normal.
106-115 degrees: The board will help provide water coolers for hydration, game times will move to 6pm and 7:30 pm start times, while also being shortened to 7 full innings. The early game at Hobbs will also start at 7:30pm and will be shortened to 7 innings. Game of the Week will still be a full 9 innings with a 9:15pm start time.
Above 115 degrees: Games will be cancelled.

The KVKL Board will update the league by 2pm regarding heat-related matters that way teams can best plan ahead regarding any potential scheduling changes.
We look forward to finishing the rest of this season with you all, and if you have any clarifying questions regarding this matter, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Wishing you all the best,
The KVKL Board
