After three weeks of weather-related rescheduled games, the KVKL Board has made the difficult decision to cancel Marquee Matchup Week. This will allow us to maintain flexibility should we experience another rainout or heat cancellation while also avoiding the additional costs of extending the season. It also helps ensure we can preserve a 3-week tournament without triple headers or dropping the Twain and Boot and complete the season before Labor Day weekend, when many players have travel plans and availability becomes more limited.
The remainder of the season will be as follows:
August 2: Week 9 Regular Season Games
August 9: Tournament First & Second Rounds (YSC)
August 16: Tournament Quarterfinals & Semifinals (YSC)
August 23: Tournament Championships (Hobbs)
We know many of you were looking forward to Marquee Matchup Week, and this was not a decision we made lightly. However, balancing schedule flexibility, the league’s financial realities in an already challenging year, and the desire to preserve the tournament and conclude the season before Labor Day made this the best path forward for KVKL.
We also recognize that eliminating Week 10 may affect tournament eligibility for some players who were counting on that game to meet participation requirements. If you have players who have played 2 games this season, they are now tournament eligible.
